MissionThe Modern Graphic History Library is dedicated to acquiring and preserving distinguished works of modern illustration and pictorial graphic culture while also promoting sustained academic consideration of those materials.
Holdings and Highlights
Focusing on artists' working materials and sketches as well as finished artworks, the range of the Modern Graphic History Library collection extends from book, magazine, and advertising illustration to graphic novels, comics, poster design, pictorial information design, and animation.
The collection is comprised of original art and printed material from many fields of popular American pictorial graphic culture, with our main focus on 20th century periodical illustration and comic art. We have substantial holdings by Al Parker, Robert Andrew Parker, and Robert Weaver, from their respective estates, as well as the Charles Craver collection of tear sheets, numbering in the thousands and devoted to approximately 60 of the major illustrators from the 1920s-40s.
