Olin Library Rules and Regulations
Library Rules and Regulations are designed to promote an atmosphere conducive to study and research and to protect library patrons and collections.
- NO FOOD or BEVERAGES: Beverages in COVERED containers or cans may be consumed in the Library.
- SAFETY: For safety considerations, skating, running and similar activities are prohibited. Skate boards, in-lne skates and collapsible scooters must be carried whil in th ebuilding and may not be placed where they obstruct corridors or pathways.
- BICYCLES: Bicycles and non-collapsible scooters may not be brought inside the building.
- NOISE: Noise should be kept to a minimum. Please respect the needs of those studying around you.
- CELL PHONE/PAGERS: In order to minimize noise and distractions, cell phone and pager ringers should be turned off. Cell phone use is restricted to the staircase landing area on each floor.
- STAIRWAYS: Safety and fire regulations forbid lingering or sitting on staircases.
- NO SMOKING: Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the Library. Chewing tobacco is not allowed.
- PETS: Animals, with the exception of trained assistance or guide dogs, are not allowed in the library.
- IDENTIFICATION CARDS: To assure legitimate use of the library, staff may request that patrons present valid identification. Valid Washington University identification is required to enter the building after midnight.
- POSTERS and FLYERS: Posters and flyers may not be attached to the building, windows or columns, internally or externally, nor distributed within the building, unless authorized by the Library Administration Office.
- PERSONAL PROPERTY: Theft of personal property can occur. Do not leave personal property, particularly bags and articles of value unattended anywhere in the library.
- CLOSING TIME: Prior to closing, an announcement will be made. At that time, please prepare to leave the library while there is still time to check out needed materials.
