Collections & Resources

Databases

Hundreds of online databases are available through the library. Some of the major databases include SciFinder Scholar/Chemical Abstracts, Beilstein Crossfire, MEDLine, and Web of Science. Reference Sources

The library has a number of reference sources in both print and electronic format. The print materials are located in the Main Room on the shelves along the perimeter of the room. These materials are non-circulating and can not be taken from the library. The electronic reference sources can be accessed through the library website.

Electronic Journals

Reserve Materials

Reserve books are shelved underneath the stairwell in the Main Room of the Chemistry Library. There are two types of reserve materials: course reserves for a specific class and permanent reserve for books that are heavily used. These materials are non-circulating and can not be taken from the library. If you need assistance locating course reserves please ask the library staff.

Access & Circulation Policies

The Chemistry Library collection includes both circulating and non-circulating materials. All borrowers with a valid Washington University ID have borrowing priviledges for circulating materials.

  • Faculty - 90 days
  • Graduate Students - 60 days
  • Undergraduates - 28 days
  • Courtesy borrowers - 21 days
Reserves

Faculty needing to place books and other materials on reserve may fill out the Online Reserve Request Form with the required list of books. Please be sure to indicate on the form Chemistry Library. Or they may submit their lists to Cynthia Hudson, either in person or via email. Reserve books are shelved in the brown bookcase in the Main Room of the Chemistry Library.

Reference

Reference services, research consultation, and individual and group instruction in the use of Chemistry Library resources is available either during posted office hours or by appointment. Contact Rob McFarland, rmcfarland@wustl.edu , (314) 935-4818, for more information or to make an appointment. Other services include interlibrary loan, document delivery, and online literature searching.

Equipment & Computers

The Chemistry Library has six online computer search terminals which provide access to the Library Catalog, as well as access to the Internet. There are two copy machines. One is reserved for Chemistry Department faculty, staff, and students. This copier requires entry of copy code issued by the Chemistry Department. The second copier is for all non-Chemistry Department people and requires a copycard which may be purchased in Olin Library.

Online Services

There are several online services available through the library website. Services include InterLibrary Loan, Online book renewal, West Campus delivery request, MOBIUS, as well as many other services. Click here to access these services.
