PubMed - Fulltext Linking Options

Link to top Life Sciences

Many of our databases are configured to give you buttons with each retrieved citation that offer fulltext links or other options, such as, Catalog search and/or ILLIAD (Interlibrary Loan) request forms. These features are available in PubMed three ways:

  1. Use the generic URL for PubMed [ pubmed.gov ] and use the graphic link to fulltext which usually works.
When there is no graphic link to fulltext in PubMed or when it doesn't work, then copy and paste the PMID number into this form: Citation Linker.
  2. Use the special WU Libraries URL for PubMed: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?otool=moufgllib

This URL will probably be the PubMed link throughout most of the library web site.
Or use the special WU Libraries URL for PubMed: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?myncbishare=wubiol, equipped with both Get it! buttons and WUSTL Becker Online buttons. NOTE: For prepublication citations, it is always best to use the graphic link to fulltext supplied by PubMed. Get it! links often do not work properly for the most recent articles.

The direct PubMed URL to get Becker holdings information on their red Get It @ Becker button is http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?holding=wustlmlib. "Check if this is available from the Danforth Campus Libraries" is a link at the bottom of all Get It @ Becker screens.
  3. Set your Outside Tool Preference in My NCBI to Washington Univ. in St. Louis, Danforth Campus and be sure your browser accepts cookies. Then you can continue to use the pubmed.gov URL but with the WU Get it! buttons sfx will display. You may need to login to My NCBI occasionally. More information about My NCBI.
