• Hours Biology Library Thanksgiving week [Nov. 20-25, 2007]:
  Tuesday & Wednesday 8:30am - 5:00pm; Thanksgiving Thursday closed; Friday - Sunday closed
• One workstation in the Biology Library has now been configured to be a "catalog-only" machine. It requires no logon and can search the catalog, Mobius catalog, and some top-level library.wustl.edu and wustl.edu pages. It cannot access Becker Medical Library catalog, fulltext ejournals, WebStac or print. We hope this is a convenient change!
• New blog: Bernard Becker Medical Library Scholarly Communications Update This blog includes information on scholarly communications issues such as author rights, copyright, public access mandates, fair use, open access, economics of scholarly resources, support for authors, publishing models, preservation, and digital repositories.
• Databases change interface: History of Science, Technology, and Medicine, and Anthropology Plus are now available on FirstSearch instead of RLG Eureka. More info.

• Tips on using Web of Science: The librarian at the National Science Foundation, Stephanie Bianchi, has a nice column in a recent newsletter about ways to find out lots of information about a potential reviewer, or any author, in only 5 minutes using Web of Science features. Check out Give me five minutes more!

      - NAS Makes 150 Years of Scientific History Available Online: Biographical Memoirs of the National Academy of Science are now online, 1877+
• Interesting reading: Freeing the Dark Data of Failed Scientific Experiments Wired Magazine Oct. 2007. "...science gets skewed because only positive correlations see the light of day. After all, the surprising findings are what makes the news (and careers). So what happens to all the research that doesn't yield a dramatic outcome..." I was alerted to this article by Richard Akerman in Science Library Pad.
