Wireless Network Setup - WUFI

These instructions are provided to assist you in setting up your computer and connecting to the University wireless network over an unencrypted connection.  Remember this connection is not secure and should not be used for the transmission of sensitive or personal information.  We strongly encourage the use of a secure connection (WUFI-S) whenever possible.

Getting Started

Before setting up your wireless connection, you should install the latest version of drivers and management software for your wireless adapter.  You should check the instructions provided by your computer vendor for instructions on how to download and install these drivers.

Setup Instructions

Turn on your computer and make sure that your wireless network card is enabled.  Instructions for enabling the wireless card should be provided by your computer manufacturer.

Once you receive a wireless network signal, search for available wireless networks and select WUFI.

Your system will automatically be assigned an IP address on the University wireless network.

Open your web browser.  You will be directed to the wireless logon page (see note below about Certificate Errors).

Log on to the wireless network.

Logging on

When logging on to the wireless network in the libraries, you have two options.

Option 1

If you have previously logged on to a library public computer and changed your password -- in the User Name field, enter your University ID number followed by @library.  For example:  123456@library.

In the Password field, enter the same password that you use for access to library public computers.

Option 2

In the User Name field, enter the user name assigned to you by your school or department followed by the department domain.  For example:  jjones@olin or ssmith@artsci.

In the Password field, enter the password assigned by your school or department.

Some schools and departments use this user name/password combination for access to both wireless and dial-up connections.

Known Issues

Certificate Errors -- During the logon process, you may encounter a Security Alert or Certificate Error.  If so, you should be provided with an option to proceed which you should accept.  For example, FireFox offers the option "Accept the Certificate"; IE 7 gives offers "Continue to the website"; other browsers will offer similar options.

Once you have elected to proceed, the logon process should continue normally.
