Getting Started
Before setting up your wireless connection, you should install the latest version of drivers and management software for your wireless adapter. You should check the instructions provided by your computer vendor for instructions on how to download and install these drivers.
To connect using WUFI-S, you will need to download the SecureW2 software from the NTS web site. This software can be found by going to the NTS wireless page and clicking on the Meru Secure Wireless Client link.
Logging on
When logging on to the wireless network in the libraries, you have two options.
Option 1
If you have previously logged on to a library public computer and changed your default password -- in the User Name field, enter your University ID number followed by @library. For example: 123456@library.
In the Password field, enter the same password that you use for access to library public computers.
Option 2
In the User Name field, enter the user name assigned to you by your school or department followed by the department domain. For example: jjones@olin or ssmith@artsci.
In the Password field, enter the password assigned by your school or department.
Some schools and departments use this user name/password combination for access to both wireless and dial-up connections.
Setup Instructions
If you have not already done so, download the SecureW2 software and save it to your Desktop.
Once the download is complete, double click on the desktop icon for SecureW2_wufi.exe.
During the installation, you will be prompted to enter your logon information. Select one of the two options above and proceed. Leave the box titled "Domain" blank.
Select the option for rebooting your system at the end of the setup.
After your computer has rebooted, right click on the Windows Wireless icon in your System tray (normally the box in the lower right corner of your display).
Select "View Available Wireless Networks".
A new window will open and you should see a list of wireless connections that your system has located. On the left side, you should see a list of Related Tasks. Select the task "Change advanced settings".
A new window will open and you should see three tabs, "General", "Wireless Networks", and "Advanced". Select the "Wireless Networks" tab.
In the list of "Preferred networks", select "WUFI-S" and select "Properties".
When the "WUFI-S Properties" window opens, you should see three tabs: "Association", "Authentication" and "Connection".
On the "Association" tab, the "Network name (SSID)" should be WUFI-S. "Network Authentication" should be WPA (if not, select from the drop down list). "Data Encryption" should be TKIP (again, if not then select this from the drop down list).
Move to the ""Authentication" tab. "EAP Type" should be SecureW2. If not, select from the drop down list.
Click on the "Properties" button below EAP type.
In the "SecureW2 Profile" window, you should see two tabs: "Profile" and "Gina". On the "Profile" tab, "Profile should be WUStL. If not, select this from the drop down list.
Click OK.
This will return you to the "WUFI-S" properties window. Click OK in this window.
This will return you the the "Wireless Network Connection Properties" window. click OK in this window.
This should complete your WUFI-S wireless setup. Your system should automatically connect you to the secure wireless network whenever you are within the operating range of a wireless access point.
Known Issues
Certificate Errors -- During the logon process, you may encounter a Security Alert or Certificate Error. If so, you should be provided with an option to proceed which you should accept. For example, FireFox offers the option "Accept the Certificate"; IE 7 gives offers "Continue to the website"; other browsers will offer similar options.
Once you have elected to proceed, the logon process should continue normally.
Instructions for Windows Vista Users
Download SecureW2 to your computer and save to your Desktop.
Double-click the SecureW2_vista.exe file you downloaded to install the software.
During the install, you will be prompted to enter your logon information.
See logon information above regarding options for what to enter in these fields
Do NOT enter anything for Domain. Leave this field blank
Select the option to reboot your system at the end of the setup.
When you system reboots, it will automatically connect to WUFI-S when in range.
NOTE: Depending on boot times of your laptop, it may takes several seconds for the wireless to connect.
Instructions for Macintosh Users
These are generic instructions for Macintosh users running MacOS X and using AirPort wireless cards.
Start your system and click on the AirPort in the menu bar.
Start AirPort if it is not already running.
Select "Open Internet Connect..."
From the File menu, select "New 802.1x Connection".
Select "Edit Configurations" from the "Configuration" list.
Configure this connection with the following:
"Description" -- WUFI-S
"Network Port" -- AirPort
"User Name" -- See logon information above.
"Password" -- See logon information above.
"Wireless Network" -- WUFI-S
"Authentication" -- Check or select TTLS. Uncheck or unselect any other authentication types that may be selected.
Select TTLS and click on "Configure"
Configure TTLS with the following:
"TTLS Inner Authentication" -- PAP.
"Other Identity" -- anonymous@library. (Be sure to use all lower case letters. This entry can also use @any other valid Washington University domain such as @law or @artsci.)
Click OK to close the TTLS configuration window.
Click OK to save all settings and close the 802.1x window.
This should complete your WUFI-S wireless setup. Your system should automatically connect you to the secure wireless network whenever you are within the operating range of a wireless access point.
